Karoo Sustainable Landscapes Program (KSLP) Achieves Key Milestone with Verra Registry Pipeline Listing
Sayari Earth is proud to announce a major milestone in the progress of the Karoo Sustainable Landscapes Program (KSLP). The project has been officially listed on the Verra Registry as “Pipeline Listing (under development)” under Project ID 5689.
This designation marks an important step forward, as it confirms that the KSLP has been formally reviewed and recognized by Verra, a world leading carbon credit standard, as a project under development.
It signals growing momentum toward the program’s goal of becoming one of the largest and most-impactful nature-based carbon removals initiatives in the world. With a secured offtake agreement of up to 12.7 million tons of verified carbon units over 20 years, the KSLP is possibly one of the world’s largest single-project carbon removals project in history. This registry milestone paves the way for the next stages of validation and verification, bringing the KSLP closer to delivering large-scale climate, ecological, and social impact.
Agriculture is a critical, but underfunded part of the climate solution with just 5% of climate finance going to agriculture despite food systems generating a third of human-caused emissions. Proven models such as recovering pastureland, sustainable intensification of livestock management, and enhanced fire management can grow output, boost resilience and increase incomes, without further habitat loss. This is an important consideration in the KSLP which works across two global biodiversity hotspots: the Cape Floral Kingdom and the Succulent Karoo Arid Hotspot.
Dr. Hassan Sachedina, Sayari Earth CEO added: “Sustainable agriculture needs to be a core pillar of climate finance. Agriculture is the foundation of food and economic security, underpinning livelihoods and diets for billions. We are privileged to be able to support and work with farmers in the Western Cape to enhance sustainable fibre and food production through a model that could be replicated elsewhere.”
