About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Engagement Officer to support our Partnership-based Carbon Removals Project in KZN. This role is vital for ensuring strong stakeholder relationships and assessing community willingness to participate in a potential nature-based carbon project. The Engagement Officer will work closely with local communities, government bodies, and partner organizations to facilitate meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with local communities, traditional leaders, landowners, government agencies, NGOs, and other key stakeholders.
- Facilitation & Outreach: Organize and lead meetings, workshops, and discussions to communicate project objectives and gather feedback.
- Data Collection & Reporting: Assist in collecting and documenting community insights, land-use information, and willingness to participate.
- Collaboration & Support: Work alongside the Project Manager and scientific teams to ensure alignment between community perspectives and project goals.
- Conflict Resolution: Address concerns, misconceptions, or conflicts that may arise during community consultations.
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Community Development, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in community engagement, stakeholder management, or rural development projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of South Africa’s environmental and regulatory landscape, particularly in KZN.
- Experience working with rural communities and understanding traditional governance structures.
- Fluency in English and isiZulu (or another local language) is required.
- Ability to travel frequently within KZN for fieldwork and stakeholder meetings.
