Sayari Earth is proud to announce a significant milestone in the development of the Karoo Sustainable Landscapes Program (KSLP) in the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces of South Africa.

One million acres of enrolled farmland are now under improved rangeland management plans. The total amount of enrolled farmland currently stands at 1,09 million acres (441,250 hectares) of which 1,001,728 acres (405,385 hectares) are under improved rangeland management.

Notably, this hectarage has been enrolled over the last 6 months since January 2026, illustrating the traction of the program and demand from land stewards to access carbon finance and technical tools to support land management.

The project is being built to Verra’s VM0032 methodology to enable biodiversity conservation areas of global value to participate alongside agricultural land use in the Karoo reflecting this ecosystem’s mosaic of land uses.

Sayari Earth has built a Land Management Team spread across the Karoo to provide intensive technical support to farming communities who are supported by Science and Operations Management Teams from our office in Mossel Bay.

Reaching 405,385 hectares under improved management implementation reflects the growing trust and collaboration between Sayari Earth and land stewards across the landscape. Improved management refers to the joint co-development of a ‘Rangeland Management Plan’ specific to each land unit which plans and co-funds interventions to optimize rangeland and livestock management at the sub-unit level within a farm.

This represents 55 signed agreements to date. Each agreement represents a shared commitment to:

  • Improved grazing and land management practices.
  • Healthier soils, vegetation and more resilient ecosystems.
  • Long-term climate impact through verified carbon removals.

Reaching one million acres under improved rangeland management with our land steward partners is a defining milestone for the Karoo Sustainable Landscapes Program. More than the scale itself, it represents the confidence that land stewards across the Karoo have placed in a shared vision for restoring one of South Africa’s most iconic landscapes. Every partnership reflects a commitment to healthier rangelands, stronger farming businesses, and measurable climate impact. We are deeply grateful to the landowners, our project development and finance partners, and the Sayari Earth team whose dedication has made this achievement possible. Together, we are demonstrating that landscape-scale restoration can deliver lasting value for people, nature, and the climate“, said CEO of Sayari Earth, Dr. Hassan Sachedina.

Looking Ahead

As the KSLP continues to grow, we invite partners, buyers, stakeholders, and the wider public to follow the journey and be part of shaping a new model for high-integrity, landscape-scale carbon removals.
